    This coin type represents the building of a road from Beneventum to Brundusium by Trajan.

     


This reverse depicts a woman reclining left holding wheel and branch: a rare reclining right variety exists as well (Banti 350).

There is also an extremely rare SENATVS type reverse for this issue. Unlisted in

RIC and unlisted in Banti. BMCRE mentions it in a footnote on P219. The example below

 may be only the second known example.
