Historical Policies, Acts and Events 4. The Antioch Earthquake. Trajan spent the winter in Antioch during the eastern campaign, where a great earthquake took place in which the emperor was almost killed. Many died and there was great devastation. Some being, of greater than human stature, had come and led him forth, so that he escaped with only a few slight injuries; and as the shocks extended over several days, he lived out of doors in the hippodrome....--CASSIUS DIO, EPITOME of BOOK LXVIII Trajan credited his survival to Jupiter.
This reverse depicts Trajan standing surrounded by the cloak and under the protecting arm of Jupiter.
