  6. Circus Maximus

This Coin depicts the Circus Maximus after the completion of its restoration by Trajan in 103ad.

This reverse consists of an overall view of the Circus Maximus. In front a colonnade---number of arches will vary between 8 and 15. 2 higher entrances at each end are topped by quadrigas. The large obelisk erected by Augustus and several smaller obelisks are depicted on the spina as well as various other figures. A tetrastyle temple surmounted by the radiate head of Sol dominates the background area. One of the most desirable and recognizable of the architectural types.
